MOURNING DAY FOR ASSYRIAN MARTYR
Down in the history Assyrians have known many sorrowful days, which are
imprinted on the people's memory .
In August 1933 the world turned the darkest page of its history .It was
the Assyrian genocide in Iraq. Its cruelty knew no limits, so the world was
shattered.
Done with the connivance of the British administration the Iraqi
government launched a massive attack on Assyrians who tried to win themselves
autonomy once promised by the world powers. The same powers gathered all Arab
nationalistic forces, and called Arabs and Kurds to first Assyrians. Assyrians
were plundered and murdered everywhere. The enemies came and took whatever they
might find. Assault and robbery happened in every Christian village around. It
was being done on such a big scale that the police had to interrupt it. The
Iraqi soldiers and looters were extremely cruel. They did things which even wild
animals never did.
As a matter of fact the Iraqi powers did not even try to cover up plunder
and looting, on the contrary, they openly triumphed in a welcome meeting of such
cutthroats leaders like Bakr Sidki and Nadji Ramadan.
The memory still keeps sadness and frustration. It is worry that lives
with us. The Mourning Day for Assyrian Martyr, 7th of August, is the day of
national mourning now.
The' Meltha ' Bulletin staff would like to join our people in this
mourning and all of us bend their heads in good memory of martyrs.
Glory to heroic martyrs!
