FROM THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ASSYRIANS "LAROS"

Participants in the international conference "The Problems of Historic and Cultural Heritage, Legal and Economic Status of Assyrians" (Moscow, March 26-April 2, 1995); deputed me to present to you a brief review of the Conference and the text of our Appeal to UNO, *UNESCO, Heads of the countries and governments where Assyrians are not living (the papers are enclosed)

In the year declared by UNO as Tolerance year we are begging You to do Your best for possible bettering of our long suffering people' status.

REVIEW

Of the international conference "The Problems of Historic and Cultural Heritage, Legal and Economic Status of Assyrians" (Moscow, March 26- April 2, 1995; by Assyrian chronology the year of 6745) After discussing the basic aspects of the main issue the participants in the Conference stated the urgent necessity of the following steps within specific conceptions:

I. Problems of Assyrian people's historic and cultural heritage:

-support for launching a center dealing with creating educational programs; -launching national schools;

establishing a center for publishing books, textbooks, manuals, guides, etc.;
establishing a mass media center including publishing newspapers, broadcasting tele and radio programs in the national language;
organizing creative groups and training national specialists (historians, ethnographers, choreographers, composers, etc.);

2. Problems of Assyrian' legal status in the world:

opportunity of launching public organizations;
authorizing for Assyrians one and the only name
Assyrians -without any religious connotation; .

3. Problems of Assyrian' economic status in the world:

giving preferential taxation to Assyrian Diaspora as a national minority. ,
